Subject: Intercon website alert
Hello,
My name is Rebecca and I found your email address via the Maritime
Mobile Service Network web page link. Although I am not an amateur
radio operator myself, I am hoping to let people in the HAM
community learn of the death of Steve Rock, N4SR (formerly WA4YVQ),
my former husband and friend.
Steve passed away unexpectedly on 08 October 2008. I know that
several of his friends may have learned of this already, since he
worked at HAM Radio outlet. I was hoping to let anyone else know
who may have been his friend. Please let me know if this is
something you can include in your newsletter/blog or whatever is
available. The memorial service has already taken place.
Thanks again,
Rebecca Mick

2008 became the year that we lost two Net Controllers Clyde KG4BVR and Lee W1LBS, it all happened too fast, to two great people, they will be missed.
We have been fortunate to add some new Controls, which is necessary to keep the whole thing going, so its fair to say that there is a regular turn over of Controls all the time.
It is important that the new folks become familiar with the guidelines as presented on the Net Control Page by looking under Policies and Procedures Link and also on the Net Protocol Page.
We must learn to listen more as we cannot hear with the mike button down.
With propagation as it is these days sometimes its difficult to pass the Net from one Control to another at the hourly change over time. Relays are most helpful is those cases.
The MMSN does tracking and weather broadcasting, which is not required on Intercon, however if asked
we can perform those functions.
Also we do respond to emergencies of all types, both MM (maritime mobiles) and land based mobile types. Several years back we
assisted a mobile in the Arizona desert with car troubles.
Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year. May it be a great improvement from the last.
